Background
The Hawthorne Historic Inn, located at 2121 1st Ave in San Diego, CA, stands as a testament to the city's rich history, having been built in 1900. Originally known as the Working Man's Hotel, it has evolved into a significant landmark, offering a blend of historical charm and modern living accommodations. Overlooking the harbor and downtown, it has been accommodating guests for 124 years.

Originally constructed for Dr. Edward M. Butler and his wife, the inn represents an excellent example of Vernacular or "Unschooled" architectural style. Its history includes hosting a diverse array of guests, from Black celebrities during the Jim Crow era to figures involved in espionage, painting a vivid picture of its past.
